Emmanuel Macron Elected French President

Emmanuel Macron was elected President of France after the election took place on Sunday, May 7, 2017. The political figure of the center-wing party defeated Marine Le Pen, a right-wing politician.
Macron's winning margin is projected at 65 to 35 percent, which is 20 percent more than previous pre-election surveys.


Macron's victory will mark the growing position of France in the European Union. During this time the issue of the European Union includes a fundamental difference in the vision of the mission of Macron and Le Pen. Le Pen is known to plan to bring France out of the European Union if he is elected.
"I know how much difference there is in this country and ultimately they make choices," Macron said as quoted by Reuters on Monday, May 8, 2017.


French President Francois Hollande, the man who first brought Macron to his country's national politics, commented positively.


"This ensures that the majority in our country wants to remain in the EU," he said.
After the election, Macron also called German Chancellor Angela Merkel. He plans to visit Berlin in the immediate future.


While US President Donald Trump has also congratulated him and called the election of Macron a great victory.
